To all:

the good news I guess is that there is economic expansion and investment activity in Vietnam.

Does anyone know whether Vietnam was just as hard hit as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia? I have no idea, but my impression is one heard rather little about Vietnam in all this.

Thanks Sankar for checking in here!

Thomas

Thank you Sankar. That's as lucid an explanation of what has happened and why as I have seen anywhere. Or at least it makes sense to me (which is, I am afraid, no very great compliment).

Listen Sankar. Do you hear it? The crash and tinkle of the failing joint partnerships with Indian companies and multinationals in India?

I have this impression that in India this is the next great shoe to drop.

How many Indian joint partners are a bunch of crooks. How many of these "join-partnerships" are cratering?

Warning: All you NRI's. No more 20% dollar "guranteed" rates in Indian banks. The next shoe to drop for you.... will be you'll be part of the carryout line.

The contagion is spreading.

Sankar, at least we agree on the basic causes of the Asian Malaise, government dictum of investment rather than free market and over leverage (which in essence is also a local Government dictate).

Thanks for the enlightning post.
