My best friend from high school's father, who died when we were 16, was a glass blower for Varian on Page Mill Rd. I wonder how many invested in glass blowing operations to make all those flat screen TV devices they showed on Star Trek a few years earlier...

Batteries are NASTY devices due to the chemicals... and there is a ton of loss in transmission from generation to the garage. It would not surprise me if they are like glass TV screens and eventually get replaced by fuel cells that burn hydrogen and/or natural gas.
