Nice! If you add my property taxes to my girlfriends, who also semi retired and takes care of her mother in her home less than a mile away, we're over $21,000 a year! Given we get so little interest on savings in CDs and savings accounts, it is a very large % of our combined income.

My RMDs plus SS should be plenty to live a great life, but when you consider the property taxes we pay plus the CA sales taxes, we sure pay a lot even if fed taxes are very low.

I could advertise and write more to sell more newsletters, but the incentive is very low to do the extra work (or take risk hiring folks) when the government would take so much of any success and I bear the full cost of any failure as my Fed tax rate now is very low.

The five on the stage Tuesday night talked a great story with all the freebies, but I'm not sure if any of them ever actually worked their way up from busing tables then washing cars at a car wash before eventually going to college with the funds earned to become a decently paid engineer that actually INVENTED new products that were built in the US... I personally figured out how to get more out of a process with some IC design tricks to keep 200 or so jobs in the US before we obsoleted the IC fab and all the jobs vanished as they moved offshore for reasons I've stated too many times (high CA & US taxes.)

Many of the lawyers, for children or community activists or whatever you want to call them who were on the stage, are mostly parasites that feed off the work of others. Sure some of what they do is good just as the gut has good bacteria, but they still never created any value on their own yet they base their world views on what they can take from the work of others to redistribute as they see fit for a better world.

Side Bar: It is amazing how much money is made suing the government..... at all levels and how much it costs us taxpayers... yet makes lawyers rich.
