Malwarebytes is dedicated to spyware, malware, not viruses. You need both. Antivirus companies that say their antivirus software does both I would not trust them. Malwarebyes specializes in malware.

The point is to have dependable malware protection and if you use something else other than Malwarebytes that works well, there's nothing wrong with that. :)

The Malwarebytes value proposition ...

<< Josh, I do not use MWB. I have AVG + Zone Alarm. Its seems OK for me. (If some one can convince me to move away and go to MWB, I am interested in hearing the value proposition). >>

kumar: As Ron and Josh pointed out Malware bytes does not replace an anti virus and/or firewall] (or an Internet security program that bundles the 2 and also offers real-time protection against PUPs, Trojans, rootkits and other malware). It's a secondary defense andt a valuable one but it cannot and should not be relied on as a stand-alone, fool proof security system.

As for the value proposition, Malwarebytes Free (as opposed to Malwarebytes Premium) is just that: i.e free (not just free trial download) and highly recommended. While the free version does not provide real time protection against malware it will scan and search for malware that may have slipped by your AV/IS, and remove or quarantine it. Prior to doing so it automatically updates the definitions. It is arguably the single best program of its type.

I run it approximately once per week as part of a weekly routine or when my system appears to be behaving oddly and do the same with Emisoft Antimalware which I usually run with real-time protection turned off although when turned on it appears not to conflict with Norton Internet Security which provides primary defense for me in the same fashion AVG + Zone Alarm does for you.
