That's exactly how I've been installing it!

Our corporate network relies on a byzantine system of computer "images" that are installed on the thousands of machines here.

On shutdown, an Applescript is activated that installs upgrades, to system software, bookmarks, extension configs etc. All this is derived from an "image" that is stored on key central servers. That's where OS8 is the problem.

Our infrastructure script does not recognize it. The OS is incompatible with the infrastructure configurations for the software that we use and it crashes. Thus, I reluctantly remove it because it's the only way to get the thing to work without creating a new infrastructure standard. Which I do not have the authority to do.

It takes my company roughly a year to test and approve an OS. That's why we're still using System 7.5.5 (recently included in the infrstructure - we'd been using Sys 7.5.3 up until August).

We're dealing with thousands of machines that corporate would like to keep standardized. We cannot afford to send a team of techs out to install system upgrades. That's where we have created the automatic Infrastructure upgrade that only works on Infrastructure compliant machines. OS8 is not compliant to those standards. System 7.6 will probably be adopted by June and Sys 7.6.1 by December next year.

Of course, when OS8 is suddenly adopted, the OS8 userbase will jump by several thousands!

Scary isn't it?
