Joey, If the performance of s7 can march upspeed like it has so far it will act as an alternate source and competitor to the P II.
I suspect it will be performance driven. If Intel pulls way ahead on performance, they will hog the share.If not yhey will yield some.

Joey , re. just a matter of time for slot 1 take over
A few points to consider :-
Intel is going to make a PII without slot 1
They are also going to produce a PII with an on chip L2 cache like K6+
They are introducing slot 2 for higher performance applications.
These 3 factors indicate to me that Intel is concerned that slot 1 may not have a future , since they are hedging their bets 3 ways ,
