Dear Jane. I recive your point about Joseph, the common way of naming boys in Israel at that time and some do today is to use the fathers name instead of a last name. This again is a cultural thing that is not done in America or English. Joseph is listed in the Genealogy of the Lord in Matthew and in the Circumcision ceremony Joseph was there and they would have given the Boy the fathers name as His last name only. All the genealogy of the Bible is to translate meaning of the people in the accounts. I love to read the story of Joseph in Genesis and see the prophesies of the Lord through Joseph. The detail is incredible, even the name Judas in Hebrew is Judah and in the account of Joseph, Judah was the one who suggested they sell Joseph to the Egyptians. The best part is the reconciliation of Joseph to his brothers after he had reigned in Egypt for many years. Anyway I am sorry if I offended anyone it is just the way boys are named no signifigance to the birth of the Lord. But Joseph was there while Mary was raising Jesus wasn't he? Merry Christmas to everyone, Nancy
