Westmoreland could not have offered him admission. Only the service academy can do that. Westmoreland could not even nominate him, unless he was a member of congress or senate, or a handful of similarly qualified nominating officials.

Thank you. A lot of people don't seem to understand the process, or are ignoring because of politics. And being in the ROTC, he should have known what the process is. I suppose he chose to embellish the situation, but why? It already was pretty top notch. So if he chose to lie about something so minor, what else is there?

Al,
PS: my son is a graduate of the 2002 bicentennial class.
Nice.

Do you have a picture of him shaking hands with the speaker at his graduation, George W. Bush? ;-)

You're splitting hairs and you know damn well you are. The left is going to smear every black Republican candidate with everything they can find because they know a black Republican candidate is going to draw black votes from the Democrat candidate and they can't afford to lose those votes. You've done the same thing to every black Republican candidate. You're a bunch of disgusting assholes.

He NEVER suggested Westmoreland had anything to do with it. His performance caused the local people to tell him he could get in surely if he wanted it.

The article reeks of desperation on the part of the Left. The story was planted by the Clinton campaign's opposition research people.

I am quite sure that you will agree that Westmoreland knew a member of congress who would sponsor the top African American ROTC candidate in the country. He would not have offered it if he couldn't make it happen.

Westmoreland got hundreds of thousands of troops in Vietnam when no less a man than LBJ didn't really want to do it.

I can assure you he could, if he wanted to, get a kid into West Point and tell whoever needed to know later.

It doesn't matter since Carson never suggested anything of the sort. But if he wanted it it would have been done.
