I think one reason it is a bit higher is there are more higher paying jobs in San Jose where before we moved to Trimble Road in 1984, there were just burrowing owls and the funny farm (Agnews land).
PS: in 1968 I could buy a modest home in San Jose for about 2 - 3 times my annual salary. That ratio must be a bit higher now.

If you do a similar drive from the edge of SJ, it is probably a similar ratio.

I remember visiting my buddy's family while we were at UC in 1974... his parents owned a small store on Fair Oaks near Central Expressway. He and his brother slept in a camper in the back while his sister and parents lived in the 2 bedroom house attached to the store. It was surrounded by farms!
