That's one point of view, the old "browser is just like disk defrag" line, which has been heard here about as often as the old "Chrysler car radio" line. Technically, IE looks to me about exactly as integrated as Word or Excel, and, like Urowsky said, the only reason those aren't bundled is "it wouldn't be economic", unless Microsoft had somebody else to kill once and for all. But, as you say, it's all in your point of view.

But the irony is that MSFT has been following the path that many users want.

That's the problem. Microsoft tells users what they want. Other developers don't have the opportunity to show that they can make better software. When they do , ms uses their monopolitic power to force the users to use "what they really want".
