Yet in every step of the way you used an element of faith.

Absolutely NOT! You don't understand what faith is. I'll admit that MANY people who should know better will agree with you, i.e. one can read many prominent scientists who will also claim they take certain aspects "on faith". But I beg to differ.

If you read Hebrews 11 (in the Christian Bible) you will see that faith is something like this:

"Belief, despite great contrary evidence, so strong that it motivates the believer to action".

If you knock any of the above points out, you aren't talking about faith, but something else.

But, and this is crucial, I have a faith that changes all the time with new experiences. If the sun doesn't come up tomorrow- I'll accept that. "New data set," I'll say to myself. Religion is unique in that it's emphasis on absolute and somewhat "frozen" faith, doesn't allow new data. No Christian is wandering around looking for reasons not to believe in God. And they actually make up reasons why things that might tend to make you think there isn't a God, don't do that, or do the opposite, or they ignore that stuff. They're wandering around with faith- despite the lack of evidence of God. Seems different to me.

So in short there is no such thing as an objective reality or pure science.

Does mathematics not count as an objective reality?
