Thanks for the thoughtful and timely post. In a world that by and large JUST DOESN'T GET IT, it's nice to find some folks who do! I have a special love love for these "Small Mercies", the small but significant things that folks do (and can do!) just for the satisfaction of making someone else's life a little easier or lighter. It reflects well on the one who gave you life and purpose!

Thanks again for putting some lights where they really belong this Christmas! And thanks for the one you brought to me through your post.

Merry Christmas!! JimA

LS, I am happy to see you have found the true meaning to why we were put here ( It wasn't really to play the market )! If more people lived that way the world would be a much better place. Merry Christmas and all the best in "98. Nathan

Giving at Christmas time: Sloan Kettering, St. Judes, Miami Children's Hospital.. I sponsor these three hospitals and I've been contributing to St. Judes for years. When you have had a child that has undergone a cancer scare as I had with my own son 5 years ago, you step back and reflect. St. Judes takes any child, no matter if the parents can pay or not. They don't ask you see your insurance first thing and they don't deny parents accommodation. About 50% of children coming to St. Judes, ultimately pass away, but 50% of children go on to live healthy lives. 10 years ago, 90% of children coming to St. Judes died.

I remember as a child, my dad worked in New York Hospital in Manhatten and Sloan Kettering was on the same block. I volunteered there as a candy stripper eons ago as a teenager and the memories never leave me of the work that is done at that fantastic place.

Miami Children's Hospital is where my own son underwent surgery 5 years ago. The worst scenario did not take place, but the many hours of waiting and thinking the worst was enough to change me. I'm not sure that if I hadn't had this close call, I would feel this need to give something back, I hope so. Anyhow every year I go down with Roy and we bring christmas gifts to the Oncology unit there. We also bring a gifts to "The Haven" a center for abused children that is located in Boca Raton. Roy and I go to Toys 'R Us and we choose gifts for the kids. It's a wonderful thing to share with your kids.
