Compaq had a stock buy-back program in force this year and it was cancelled with the Tandem announcement.

Has the stock buy-back program been restarted? I have not heard of it.

It seems to me that would be a good move for Compaq now. Afterall they have a lot of cash on hand and a positive cash flow. The stock price is depressed, by some measures, with a lot of upward potential. We now have a new stock split, a great fourth quarter and what I think will be a good 1998.

Would not a big buy-back program be a good idea now? Say announce with the split, and fourth quarter earnings on Jan. 20.

Would there be any relevant board meetings to decide such matters in the near future?

Any opinions out there on expectations?

Steve S.

We MAY not be at the bottom, but we are in a range where no one should ever get hurt. The 100+ projections sound like BS over the next 12 months -- but 80+ seems very probable! Post-split 40,, sounds easy!
