Hi-sort of off the topic but an affirmation of your post
there was an editorial in the New York Times about three days ago
about the a French book discussing communism..it gave numbers of up
to 100,000,000 million people killed by communistic regimes. I look
at that number and wish I had saved the article to make sure I got
it right..It is an unbelievable number. I told a friend last night
about the number. I asked if it was the product of communism's being the antithesis of having faith in some higher power and its assumption of man's power. He said communism was based on pure mind. The other night I spoke with my aunt and she said my grandparents often used an expression "Men talk and God laughs".
Ps I don't think the giant corporations ever had any values to abandon.
There was another editorial in the Times yesterday about the Asian collapse which finally implicates the West for the collapse of the East.
As you wrote, it said that billions of dollars from the west have helped to maintain the Communist Government in China. What was even
more frightening was that the article went on to say that much of this money is going to their armed forces. It goes on to say that
French,German and Russian investors are ready to do business with
Saddam-if sanctions are lifted. The author recommended reading the
January Reader's Digest article by an American expert on Iran and
weapons proliferation ,Kenneth Timmerman.
The article by Rosenthal ended "Western investors and governments themselves cannot guarantee Asia what it needs - capitalism prospering in and for democracy. But they can help-by not giving the
fruits of democratic capitalism to governments that destroy the tree."

Hi Wade,

I don't think you will ever see freedom in Asia the same way you see
it here in the States. Remember, freedom is more then being able to cross
state lines. As you say,it is the expression of thought, religion, creativity &
education. Clean government and low taxes are not and will not ever be as long
as there are politicians and folks that are more willing to follow then to lead.

China has learned from the Russians as what not to be or do. They have learned
that as long as folks have food in their bellies and a roof over their
heads that most of them will grin and bear it. When they grumble give them a
little more but not enough to make them dissatisfied. Keep them depended on
the folks that control the government. Never leave it where they can get thier
hands on it if they want to revolt. Always keep it just a arms length
away. HK will be the jewel in the crown but will never be the benifactor of the
folks on the main land. It will be the cash cow for the corrupt and for the army.;-)
China has one objective, once again control SEA & Taiwan. SEA for its
agriculture & resources and Taiwan for its intellect and wealth. They
want to be a major player and they know what they have to do to be one.;-)
