Happy Holidays to you Paul.
OTOTOTOT
Just a little additional info on alcohol: The most clinically important pathway occurs in the cell cytosol via alcohol dehydrogenase. This reaction produses acetaldeyde, which is then rapidly destroyed by adehyde dehydrogenase in the cytosol and mitochondria. Each of these steps reqiures NAD as a cofactor,a and it is the increased ratio of the reduced cofactor(NADH) to NAD(NAD:MADH) that is responsible for many of the metabolic derangemaents observed after drinking.
All pathways result in the production of acetaldehyde, which is oxidized to acetate(acetic acid). The specific clinical significance of acetaldehyde is not fully known, but low levels of this substance may cause stimulation and behavioral reinforcement. Accumulation of higher levels in liver, brain, or other body tissue may cause organ damage.
I have heard theories that different ethnic groups have different level of aldehyde dehydrogenase and therfore clear acetaldeyde at diffent rates. Supposedly Asians have less and get drunk faster. I am Indian and have a pretty high tolerance so I don't know haow much credence to put into it. Hope this helps.

Paul, do you have this article handy? Margaret missed it and I am sure she wants to show it to her hubby. It could improve their Christmas gg. But don't go to any trouble. I can find it without too much trouble evtl.

Happy Holidays again.
