Gene, long time no see! As someone who never sells Microsoft short, despite my mission as leader of the ilk, I got to say that I tend more toward your price than the lower estimates. But, I'm the last one to ask on that matter. Thing is, I don't see anything in the current action that really threatens the core Windows, uh, proprietary lock aka monopolistic death grip. So, Microsoft looses and they actually have to disentangle IE4. I don't think it's that hard, reading between the lines it looks like things are actually pretty well designed. Besides which, who's going to turn down "free" IE? The OEMs, who've all rediscovered their love of Bill since this broke? I think Microsoft's war on Java is pretty dumb, but I don't think Windows is going away any time soon, and Microsoft can sort of set the price it wants. That's how the pl aka mdg works. My understanding is OEM prices are going up these days. Windows is a drug! Just Say No! Oh, Lord, deliver us from Windows... Maybe if you want you could offer a take on the Microsoft "mere mortals cannot understand" / "compliance with a raised middle finger" strategy. I sort of get the feeling they're overplaying their hand, on the press side the ilk is picking up some unsuspecting allies. "Et tu, Economist?"- of course, they gave me my prayer too. I'm having trouble tracking down calm views from the other side. Feel free to email me if you don't want to join the fray here, it's pretty- fraying. Down below 100, I'm going to be sorely tempted by your old advise:-). Unfortunately, it might be detrimental to my mission - FROM GOD!!! Cheers, Dan, Merry Christmas to All. P.S. that last line was a joke, homage to old John Belushi. They just buried Chris Farley here in Madison, something about those big guys...
