copper could be a sleeper and surprise everyone. Cars use an average of 55 lbs each. Electric and hybrid cars use an average of double that. Ford says that 40% of their cars will be electric by 2020!!! If all the other auto manufacturers are following a similar path, it adds up to a lot of copper consumption.
(40%)(85,000,000autos/year)(55lbs/auto)=1.87 billion pounds (935K tonnes) extra/year.....
annual copper consumption=21,957K tonnes....
935K tonnes/21,957K tonnes = 4.25% increase in consumption. If the marginal pounds of copper set the price, then copper could have a good bounce upwards......
