Mike, (a) semi business is cyclical in two to five year cycles, not one year cycles, never has been and 1997 was the first year of "recovery" year, not a "record" year, (b) Teradyne's sales for the next six to nine months will better expecations; Teradyne has all but fallen over themselves to give this information to the analysts; read the reports, (c) semis are moving to new process testing for 64mg drams which requires all new testing equipment; if dram players want to play in the 64mg arena they need the new intruments; it's not a question of will they are won't they purchase due to oversupply (d) oversupply exists in the 16mg dram, not 64mg dram - semis can make money at 64mg but are breaking even at 16mg (d) price recovery of Teradyne in the past had none of the elements which exist today relative to the need for upgrading testing equipment
