Mohan: I need your help. I own about 8 DOW stocks on margin.
I have held them for over a year. What is your recommendation for
a hedging strategy for the next three months. I don't want to sell
and pay gains or reduce my margin. What would you suggest?

The market's going to slowly erode this year. just read the charts of each of the major tech stocks since OCT.

You can thank all the analysts who are paid to calm the markets down
then, that all was right and Corp USA was an island of
prosperity, just to keep the inflows to mutual funds strong.

It worked for almost 5 weeks but now many fund holders are starting to see their declining balances.(just ask around)
Many of them are shocked into no action, but eventually their going to start withdrawing.

What's happened in japan & Korea was self delusion. It's now been 10yrs in Japan since the bubble burst. It'll take Korea almost as long.

The question is how deluded are the fund holders?

PS the I read prichards on MF 3 weeks ago and so far, his call on selling IBM, Dell, Msft were right (previously he called solvex & TLC short also) and most frightenly was his all out
sell everything alert. I'm starting to believe it.

Re: Semis & Networkers:

Mohan, I just started reading your thread very recently, but so far I LIKE WHAT I SEE!

I agree with the suggestion that semi equipment cos may have a large downside risk next year with almost no orders from Korea, and reduced orders from the DRAM boys. I have sold all of my semi stocks except for DPAC.

However, I am still holding my networking shares (MRVC), and I am wondering what you see for the networking sector next year. Networkers have already come down considerably; do you think it is likely that the networking sector will see a downturn similar to what is expected in the semi sector? It seems that communication bandwidth is currently the bottleneck for the growth of the "information economy", so I would expect (hope) higher than average investment here. What is your take on this, and on the valuations for these companies (CSCO, MRVC, etc.)?

Merry Christmas!!
