Hi Greg , re. Intel took a pounding...
My chart on Intel according to the inbuilt software rates Intel
as bearish short and long term . This is the first time in 3 years that it has given this indication .
One reason is AMD , the key for AMD is volume , if they reach 1.6M k6s in this quarter and can maintain that percentage of increase into q1 + q2 '98 .
These are the kind of numbers they can obtain :-
Q1 = 2.7M , Q2 = 4.5M
Now depending on the number of 266s their blended ASPs would fall in this range (using the new prices $86 $139 $314)
40% 200mhz .. 50% 233mhz.. 10% 266mhz ASP = $135
25% 200mhz .. 60% 233mhz.. 15% 266mhz ASP = $152
Total revenue for K6s assuming that the newer products are able to just maintain those ASPs .
Q1 = $364M - $410M
Q2 = $607M - $684M
If however the K6-3D and higher speed (more 266s and some 300s)
produce higher ASPs these numbers could be easily surpassed .
Add approx $400M for the rest of AMD's quarterly business and you can see why Petz and myself are so bullish on AMD at these prices
all the best , Brian
