Brian, Yesterday I went to Best Buy to purchase some last minute CD' for presents. I stopped in the Computer department to see what was going on. Best Buy had advertized Compaq preserio with AMD K-6 233 systems for $1099 monitorless. They had 70 systems and they all sold out, leaving Best Buy AMDless on the night before christmas. I asked how the Intle Pentium II were selling. The Salesman responded See for yourself there is a stack of them over there priced at $1,799. take your chice HP pavilion or Ibm aptiva's same price. There selling slow because this AMD Deal @$1,099.00 is blowing them away. All I have to do is show the coustmer the AMD system and this sony 17" monitor for $479 and they can get both system and monitor for $1,578. They still have $200+ left over to load up the memory or buy some games. We even sold the demo at that price cause it was only on display for about about 4hrs. they thought that the same system would be selling for$999.00 after christmas. It only points out that if AMD can bulid them they will buy them. Also it owuld appear that AMD alocated to compaq some time after comdex and shorted HP and IBM. This would indicate that although yields may be up K-6's are still tight in quantity. Also pent up demand is gaining momentum in the sub $1,000.00. What do you think Compaq is going to use those 500,000 socket 7, 100 mhz motherboards ordered from Acer for?
