Tracking Trailers

Qualcomm (Omnitracks) is planning to put up a service to track trailers as well. QCOM already tracks about 200,000 tractors. Trailor/tractor ratio, my guess is about 5:1. Then we have approximately, 1 million trailers to be tracked. I do not know if Trimble still supplies Qualcomm with its GPS boards.

One way to save battery is to wake the unit up with a page, then its sends back its GPS coordinates in a short while. The pager couldbe low power, partially powered by solar power.

GPS usage by Ports.

Skip, your reference to ports using GPS to locate containers, got my interest. Which ports are you refering to? How about container leasing companies, or shipping companies?

Thanks for your answers
