Buck,

IS IDX UL (Underwriters Laboratories) approved? Do they need to be?

ul.com

"Biometric identification devices measure a characteristic of a person's body. Used in an identification scheme, a biometric device validates not what you know, but who you are. UL considers this to be such an important element of protection for high risk properties that, beginning Jan. 1, 2000, line security systems will be required to use a biometric device as one means of identification to implement alarm verification. The future effective date was established to allow the alarm industry time to incorporate these devices in systems and allow the biometric industry an opportunity to further refine the technology."
