News: Court decision allows Nomai to sell disks in Germany

Source: Ziff-Davis

Link: zdnet.de

Brief English summary: A court in Mannheim Germany ruled that Boeder (a distributor) will be allowed to distribute Zip-compatible disks in Germany. Prices will be about 20% below Iomegas. Boeder distributes both Iomega as well as Nomai Zip disks. Boeder is aware of the ongoing compatibility dispute between the two companies, but says it believes that both are quality products and that it will leave the decision to consumers. The legal battle is no longer on the quality of the product (or whether it's compatible) but purely about packaging: Nomai is allowed to use the phrase '100 MB diskettes for ZIP drives'; it is prohibited from using '100% compatible'. A final decision clearing the way for Nomai/Boeder is expected in January 1998.

The article closes by saying that the new Laptop ZIP drives have been modified and don't accept clone disks.
