Best Buy offering Hewlett Packard INTEL Pentium 166 Mhz MMX /16 MG Ram/2 GB HD/Monitor/Color Printer for $999. Why would you buy MediaGX 180 Mhz unit ? I can't think of any reason.

This may be just a small point but there is one definite bug in the Cyris Media-GX 166 chip used in the Power Spec 1660 Computer sold through the Micro Center Computer Stores. After purchasing the system, I was unable to communicate with the MIDI Port of the sound card which is integrated directly into the motherboard/Media-GX 166 chip. I am well versed in MIDI/Computer setup and was suprised. After a month of working directly with Tech Support at Micro Center, Power Spec and Cyrix, none of them were able to access the MIDI output port on any of the Media GX-166 systems either. They finally refunded the purchased priced and acknowledged that there was a problem. The computer system worked exceptionally well in evey other aspect. However, since I am a long time holder of Intel stock, I felt somewhat relieved that none of the hundreds of different separate Intel/Sound Card combinations I have set up have exhibed this problem. So all is not as rosy in Cyrix camp as you might think.

Live Long and Prosper,
4-Bob
