I'm a bit surprised to hear that you think these games are a retailer warehoused item rather than drop shipped directly from the manufacturer (THQI). I wonder how many of the major toy and electronics retailers have their own warehouses? I would think that drop shipping from the manufacturer would have a lot of advantages one of which being to allow the manufacturer to keep a better track of sales by sku and be better able to control their own internal restocking.

If you are sure that you are right on this I will accept it but it does seem a bit strange to me. Of course I worked for a retail chain that went out of business so what we did is no guide to good practice then and certainly not now. And my memory isn't that great either re what happened over 25 years ago. But still I see no economic advantage to an intermediate warehousing step so I wonder about that.

If there are these warehouses, then we need to figure out how to find out what their stock levels are. That might be very useful information. It would provide a much clearer picture than sampling individual stores. I wonder if the store managers have access to this warehouse inventory level data?

Off Topic: Basic question...

Question about end of the year selling: On which date is the transaction considered complete, from a tax standpoint, the execution date or the settlement date? You'd think I'd know this by now, but no better time to learn than now!! Thanks!!

Since you seem to be most familiar with the way the game business is run, check out this article and see if you think that there can be a long term negative effect on the major game publishers. It seems like an idea that might ake a while to take hold, but might be attractive to the creatives if they can find funding. Problem is, once they have funding the angels will want some control and you're back where you started.IMHO.
