Jack, Christians are not forbidden to practice their beliefs or display their symbols. I believe that they can do that at their tax-exempt churches that I am forced to subsidize. The Supreme Court has ruled in case after case that our public institutions are not to promote a particular religion. If I am an extremist in agreeing with the Supreme Court and insisting that their rulings be followed, then so be it.

You are not butting in. If we chose to keep this conversation private, we could have used e-mail. This is an open forum, and I'm sure Christine would agree that all comments are welcome as long as they are civil.

Hi Jack,
Of course you're not butting in! It's very nice to meet you! I agree with your statement-and feel that we've gone too far in many areas-not just in the area of music- in attempting to be "fair", an effort that instead of enriching is depriving us of our own past. We have a great country and a great heritage, and I refuse to be ashamed of it or to elevate others above it. (Flags wave, Sousa march can be heard in background) Expose me to other cultures, educate me, I will appreciate the beauty of other customs and belief, but in the same way that while I can admire other children, my loyalties, love, and ultimate commitment and pride belong to my own, so do I feel about our country. (Band switches to America the Beautiful or hey, let's be really offensive!-God Bless America)

Oh! And yes, I miss Virginia every day of my life!!! And have told my family that I'm to be buried in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington with the rest of my family if I don't get manage to get back before my demise. We were in Va. in June looking at UVa and Washington and Lee with our older son and it's as beautiful as ever.
