FWIW, in 1967, Iran was an ally of Israel, not an enemy. One of their closest allies, in fact.

And you left the Chinese out of your equation ("In my mind, the two great cultures have been the ancient Greeks and the Jews. Because both cultures understood long ago the importance of education."). Education was extremely important to them as well. And the Japanese. And the Indians. And the Arabs. Actually, some form of education is important to every culture. There are just different means to the end of educating the young into cultural norms.

In the 1930s, the Germans were among the most highly educated people in the world, perhaps along with GB the highest.
