Mike,
I am not long any large cap/price stocks except some of the Dow stocks in my core portfolio. I have a short bias in my portfolio and my thinking. I would never short a stock with a float of four million shares with institutional and insider ownership of 23 million shares.
I look for at least a ten million float. It is so easy to squeeze the shorts with a small float and big fund holdings would love to do it.
AMZN shorts got squeezed big time because its easy to do with a small float, 20 million funds and insiders and three million float. IOM was a classic bear trap with the shorts down several $BILLION on the way to the NYSE. Their float is large now due to splits and fund selling so now it could be on a short list. Part of what is propelling AMZN to new highs is short covering. Look at the chart, this is a positive momentum chart if I ever saw one.
