I agree with your assessment. Many of the world's nations seem still to be organized along the somewhat feudal notion of a powerful few who often without merit pariticipate in whatever opportunities history may offer at the time. Fortunately, in this country, we have laws and regulatory agencies which combat cronyism, nepotism, and preferential treatment for insiders. In some ways, the whole history of America is the story of the battle between special interests and the common good so that fairplay and level competition can win out. Not of course that it always happens that way especially when healthy self-interest is a motivating force.
