Bucky Katt on the Rat Dog thread told a story about how his father, a generation ago, was being mentored by a savvy investor in the Chicago area. He drew a circle 50 miles radius around Chicago and advised him to buy all the farmland within the circle that he could. He did very well... (details may be slightly misremembered.)

Here farm land is quite productive if you have access to water but they make much more if they can "finance" a politician to put transportation near their land (high speed rail.... HBO had a good show on this scam) then rezone it for housing.

With global warming, I imagine your WI land will become even more valuable with a longer growing season.

I had some VERY TASTY corn from Sprouts Farmer's Market this past week. Any idea where they are growing it this early?

I chickened out and bought stocks I know better last August (like AMAT) but SFM was on my watch list and I missed getting shares at the IPO price which I was unable to do when I tried.... too bad.
