Weekly Mobile Offshore Rig Count December 26 - January 1, 1998 Worldwide offshore rig count increases HOUSTON: The worldwide offshore rig count increased by one rig since last week, according to Offshore Data Services' weekly offshore rig count. This week, 581 of the world's 606 mobile offshore drilling rigs have contracts. Worldwide offshore rig utilization is 95.9 percent. The U.S. Gulf of Mexico and European offshore rig counts are unchanged from last week. In the U.S. Gulf, 170 of 176 active offshore rigs are under contract and rig fleet utilization is 96.6 percent.
