Rex,

11/17 was the day when SNDK reached a high of 29 3/4 before going straight down to the current low price. That coincided with the sharp increase in the short. I also noticed an insider stock sale by a VP of Sandisk on 11/24. I just e-mail to Sandisk to request more info about this sale. The news said that the sale amounted to 18 million dollars!!! But the reported number of shares does not match with the stock price on that day, so I need to find out exactly how many shares are sold. I think there is an error somewhere in the news. If there was only a small number of shares sold for which the insiders periodically do, then there is no cause of concern. But 18M bucks is a lot of money. It can't happen if management strongly believes in the future of this company.

Short level up to 11/15 was 326065.

So according to Charon, if short level has increased by 83% between 11/15 and 12/15, then the short level is currently at 596700. I check the short level in the last 12 months and find 4/97 and 7/97 were the months when the short level was that high. 6/97 was the time when the stock started a major breakout from the low teen to the low 20 and 7/97 was when the stock broke out from the low 20 to the high 20, then to the high 30. So if history repeats, with this high short level, is it possible for this stock to climb back to the high 20 in the next month or so? Things to look forward in Jan-Feb 98: better than estimate earnings, hopefully some analyst upgrades, shipping of engineering samples of the MMC, hopefully some design win announcements for the MMC.

Mike.
