I agree completely. I believe Tesla is riding high on a mix of wealthy VCs who want a way to drive solo in the commute lanes here while looking cool and "green" for their kids. The whole idea of giving a subsidy for a $100K auto is wasteful when my guess is a plug in Prius is probably overall less harmful to the environment when all things are considered.

Anyway, I wrote several decades ago that ANY SUBSIDY to get us off ME oil AND used to eliminate the need to send poor US Citizens to war to have limbs blown off or die is fine, so maybe this is one reason to have a subsidy for the wealthy, but I'm not at all pleased that the VA buildings here (Palo Alto, just blocks from Tesla HQ) is probably about 10x the square footage of when I wrote that in the 1990s.
