Pardon the butt-in, but I have read Paul Engel's posts for as long as I can remember and I have found him an excellent guide to Intel the company. In fact, no one on the thread really compares on a consistent basis. To the extent that he is an Intel-booster, I believe you will find that (a) most of his comments concern the company, its products, and the competition; (b) he has been dutifully circumspect about the market's treatment of the stock, especially in the last several months; and (c) his perspective of the stock has been that of a long-term investor rather than a trader. The distinction between the company and the stock may seem like a minor one, but I have learned from reading Paul E's comments that it may be the most essential inefficiency in the stock market. BTW, Paul E has stated his involvement with Intel on several occasions, and it is discussed at some length in the relatively new book, Inside Intel.

Paul, re: to Paul E. "You have forgotten you are the greatest booster of Intel on this thread"

I think your memory is selective. You are correct if you mean that Paul is a "booster" of Intel as a company, as most on this thread are. As far as Intel as a stock, he has not been a "booster", in fact has been bearish and has stated that it probably won't appreciate until the 3rd quarter of 1998.

As to your earlier comments about his posts explaining Intel and competitive technology, I think most on this thread would agree that this is the most valuable reason to tune in to SI. I can get better qualified opinions than yours anywhere, 100 analysts everyday spew their opinions on CNBC. To get real technology information, from someone who has been there, has real value.

> You have forgotten you are the greatest booster of Intel on this thread

Hi Paul,

Actually I think Paul Engel has been somewhat bearish on the Intel
stock recently. You might recall he was quite bearish on the outcome
of Intel's recent analyst meeting even though the stock price popped
up after the meeting. He also recently defended AMD in a post foreseeing
its demise. Obviously he holds intel in very high regard. After all this
is the Intel thread.

I find his posts extremely helpful. He provides great insight into
Intel as a company, its history and the technology that they are engaged
in. I've been accumulating Intel the past year and I bought the last
batch at $85. I would never think of blaming him! He provides good,
solid information. It is then up to me to use that information as I
see fit.

With Intel down 30% from its all time highs, it's easy to blame the
Intel bulls. It'll be easy to blame the Intel bears when the stock
starts soaring again once the current bearish hot topics are behind
us.

Shahen Petrosian.

Paul F: Engel does not need me to defend his posts on this thread, so I won't. And I bet most of the thread doesn't care a whit whether or not you shorted Intel at 69 or 90 something. Just a suggestion, but you might just want to drop the issue. I see a tongue in Engel's cheek and a wink in his eye when he chides you about this. I may be wrong (and Paul E. could prove me so), but I'd wager that it would all go away if you wink back. By the way, I think it is useful to have contrarian views (like some of yours) on this thread. Livens things up. I think you have been right on the mark in some of your calls re stock price trends and if I were an active trader with Intel (but I'm long), I may have found them useful.
