That's one of the drawbacks of buying from Frank Stein Systems instead of an IBM, Compaq or Dell. I think you really hit on a non-issue insofar as the Intel's hobbling of the FPU. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enabling features based on price. It's done all the time and in the case of the SX it was obviously a good deal for consumers: 90% of whom did not need the FPU at that time.
