Savo: no need to answer my question; I found the answer in Alex Brown; they state in Dec 3 report:

"it is important to note that with Amati, TI purchased only chip level expertise at $395 million and intends to only enter the xDSL chip market with a DSP-based solution. this market promises to be approximately 10% of the total xDSL equipment market. Orckit owns both the chip-level technology and the system level expertise to be a strong player in the xDSL equipment market"

Alex Brown goes on to quote TI as stating that the xDSL market which amounts to approximately $5 billion annually now will grow to $50 billion over the next ten years.

Given Orckit's expertise in this area and their agreements, it is probable they will capture a respectable portion of this market. The portion of which is anyone's guess at this time. I wonder why TI didn't consider the purchase of Orckit over Amati other than your basic reasons regarding immediate revenue generation, etc?
