Browser fact and fiction www5.zdnet.com

Q&A column on the issue of "browser integration". As this guy actually tries to explain things, those who believe the whole issue is "beyond the comprehension of mere mortals", as Microsoft proclaims, should probably avoid it. I think the guy probably overstates the dependence of Win98 on IE, but that's just me. Rationally speaking, it's not a big deal to have IE laying around on disk, whether you use it or not, on any relatively modern machine; I'm certainly not interested in ritual purification of my disk when I got enough problems keeping Windows running smoothly in the first place. Hyperactive Desktop, that's another thing, but I promise I'll install IE4 sooner or later, got to get that OS upgrade in there sometime. Who knows what bug fixes are "part of IE"?

Cheers, Dan.
