5/27/16 Contest update It was a week when the FDA couldn’t get up the nerve to make a decision on SRPT’s DMD drug. In contrast, nervy biotech investors had no hesitation paying up for NERV, with the stock more than tripling following positive trial results for the company’s antidepressant and schizophrenia drugs. Only one Contest portfolio holds NERV. Guess which one? Meanwhile, biotechs had a decent week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -26.12% YTD (vs. down -29.26% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -18.45% YTD (vs. down -21.93% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -19.15% YTD (vs. down -23.01% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed down -1.48% YTD (vs. down -4.75% YTD a week ago). Yeah, you guessed right. Galvanized by NERV energy, Contest leader, DNAJOE’s portfolio, jumped back in the green and now sports a 11.58% YTD gain. Also now in the green, MASTER’s portfolio, up 2.41% YTD, held on to second place and JBOG’’s portfolio, down -3.27% YTD, climbed to third place. At Friday’s close, 56 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the red, with 17 beating the NBI and the same 17 beating the SPSIBI. The 224 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -19.24% and a median YTD loss of -21.65%, with 42 of the 224 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year. Below is the Top Ten list.
