Look Bud, you obviously have no experience in swapping batteries.

So tell us.. What's the largest battery you swapped. For me they were almost 2 kilos.

You are probably thinking of BetterPlace who did NOT operate a 7SSSS system. They treated battery swaps as engineering maintenance projects, not a fast swap in 7 seconds.

Well I've seen marketing types dream up some pretty wild things that from an engineering perspective just cannot or will not ever happen.

Batteries are not cheap - replacements cost about $10,000 and they weigh half a ton. The car has to be stronger and heavier just to carry the excessively large battery.

Yup they weigh about 850 lbs but are getting lighter with ever higher capacities and they are getting cheaper and cheaper. For Tesla cell costs will drop below $65 per kWhr this year as the Gigafactory finally ramps up production. (They were $175 back in August of 2013)

Actually the battery tray in the Model S and X is an integral part of the structure of the car.

Your Camry is hauling around a lot of ICE weight that the Tesla's don't have to haul.

Your engine and tranny weigh almost 800 lbs.

In the Model S it's less than 190 lbs.

No gas tank and fuel, no exhaust system, vastly lighter cooing system. (after all that ICE engine has to reject a lot of heat because it's so inefficient!)

And there are other weight savings in many other areas your Camry just can't compete with.

In less than seven more years the car will have greater range and weigh less than a comparable BMW gas guzzler.

But then again,

BMW will probably not be making that car.

It's replacement will be pure electric.
