Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm not, then it really underscores how impractical it would be to "ban assault rifles" because pretty much any weapon can be defined that way. Or modified to become one.

Velocity and capacity notwithstanding...can you tell me what purpose one of these has other than to kill people?

You have simply defined semi-auto in all it's platforms and calibers be it rifle, pistol or shotgun.

As fast as you can pull the trigger combined with magazine capacity to enable sustained shooting without some delay to reload. This probably represents 80-90% of all guns sold for the last several decades.

The question is, are semi-automatics needed? I mean, for other than a zombie apocalypse. They aren't needed for hunting, in the days when hunters were more plentiful they did fine with bolt action rifles. They seem to be ok in Australia, which has a vigorous hunting culture. Home defense? Who lives in a Mad Max-style world where dozens of outlaws assault the lone home owner? Plinking bottles or watermelons? What?

Here is an article in defense of AR-15 style rifles.

Actually, it is a pretty strong argument why things like it should be banned. Not to mention mandatory treatment for their owners if they all feel the way he does. The man sounds dangerous.

The large magazine is what needs to be banned. If a shooter had to change magazines every six shots, even unarmed victims would have a chance to rush them.
