Well, Frank, they are up and operating, and they do have quite
an infrastructure. Their profits are only limited by the highest
amount Americans are willing to pay for media. That's why I've
bought the stock. Americans have almost no limit when it comes
to media expenditures! The cellular anology is a good one. DISH
has basically given customers equipment at cost (nice equipment)
in order to win subscribers. This strategy has paid off big-time
in cellular. This company reminds me of my biggest investment
(NEXTEL) in so many ways. I welcome you to check out that
bulletin board. I paid 800 dollars for my original DirecTV
equipment, and (even though I'm not a big TV watcher) I feel it
was well worth the cost. Do a YAHOO search under dish dbs if
you really want to follow the industry. I believe this forum
will become much more active in 1998!

Thank you for that excellent link,

I believe in the long term the winner in DBS will be whoever can offer the greatest range of services, and this table lays that all out. I am very concerned with Dishes current capacity situation. I own a DISH system and would like anyone who owns USSB/DTV or Primestar to finish the comparison.

DISH
10 PPV
31 Music
6 HBO
7 Showtime/TMC/Flix etc.
3 Cinemax
50+ channel standard channel package

When echostar added encore and starz this month, they only added 1 channel of each, for $9.00 a month, where as USSB/DTV gives access to all 7+ encore movie channels (don't know price). DISH must be at the limit of what it can provide from Echostar I and II, and Echostar III is in a different part of the sky (requiring a second dish, or motorized one as someone on this thread mentioned). As new options like interactive viewing of Sports events (user selected camera angles, etc) come online, digital cable TV and DTV/USSB with there 48 slots in one area of the sky (see chart in previous link) will have a big advantage. That said, I invite criticism of my long term evaluation (lets get this thread more active!)

Regards, John
