There are a number of uses for an AR-15...why limit it to self defense....which is a good reason itself....I have friends in bear country who carry one all the time on their rural farms....its a good target rifle....good for varmint control....etc.

>>. Seems like the only argument against additional gun control regulations these days amount to slippery slopes.

In the United States, we don't have to "need" something before we own it. In fact, the constitutional hill to be climbed for banning something is supposed to be a steep climb. Remember what it took to get Prohibition? That has, of course, been mitigated over the years.

I woyld support some change if (a) there were agreed upon objective metrics up front as to what is a success or failure, and (b) there was a sunset provision that caused the law to go away after five years automatically unless it met the "success" criteria or was reauthorized by Congress.
