Paul,,, that's great!! Only they took a little more than the L2 Cache away this time.

"The 4212ES offers no ability to add extra
options inside the box, however. "You get
what you see. You buy the box and get what's
in the box and that's it," said a CDW
representative, alluding to the lack of internal
expansion."

I hate to see that Compaq let themselves get sucked into this one with Intel? Wonder how many repeat buyers they'll get? I hope Intel gets plenty of Intel Inside stickers on these.

Paul,

Notice they are doing this with an Intel MMX processor. Remember back when Compaq announced they were staying with Intel and wouldn't use the K6. That is when Intel gave Compaq an incredible discount on trailing edge Pentium with MMX (166 for around $70). In return, Compaq agreed to not use the K6 in their Presario SKUs. This sounds like unfair trade practices to me. Since then, Intel has had to lower their Pentium with MMX pricing to Packard Bell, Dell, and Gateway (the other Intel houses). But there's really only one company with the lowest price and that's Compaq. That's because they are the #1 PC manufacturer in the world.
