But the vast majority of those people don't want jobs:

Of course. That is because the safety net has become a comfy hammock. Those people shouldn't be sucking off the public teat, but learn to be self-sufficient and productive.

I have this problem with my own parents. They are lazing around on government support and not working nearly as much as they could. My Dad could definitely put in a lot more hours than he does. And my mom, well she hasn't drawn a paycheck in decades.

Not to mention their dependence on socialized medicine. I keep telling them they should be pulling their own weight, but they just don't list. Or make feeble excuses about being in their 80s...

Of course, it is totally lost on you that having 1/3 of the people in the nation in a non-productive status is the key reason we have no meaningful consistent economic growth.

Like CJ, you have no idea that growth is the product of people and capital working and creating things of value. And when 1/3 of people aren't working it is pretty hard to experience economic growth. Which is the reason that real incomes are in the tank.

But the vast majority of those people don't want jobs: They are in school, or retired, or are stay-at-home parents.

That's been my point all along. Once a person retires, regardless of age, they are no longer considered a part of the labor force. Therefore Boomers retiring should have no effect on participation rates.
