The WSJ today had a front-page story on sub-$1000 retail PC sales
in December. These sales were estimated to be 42%-47% of total retail sales, the highest its been. They didn't really conclude if these sales are cannabilizing higher-end systems like PIIs, or if all market segments are growing (which I believe), but this does create more FUD for Intel which may explain why the stock is not moving.

Paul - Re: "And these "underpowered" Media GX 180's
do that job perfectly well."

That's funny - yesterday you said you had an AMD K6-233 MHz working at only 5% of utilization running Windows NT.

And today you are back to the MediaGX that you bought for some "secretary" a few months ago?

Are you sure you know what kind of computer you are running?

Sounds like you need to ask somebody in your office for help - somebody who knows a little about computers.

Don't be embarrassed - secretaries aren't expected to know much about PCs.

Paul, my Cyrix P120+ can't keep up with the task of "stock trading" very well, particularly when the market is trading heavy and I am viewing several charts in real-time. (Using RealTick III).

Neither am I satisfied with the speed of Metastock for Windows, when reviewing daily charts.

While my processor is a bit behind, I doubt that a Media GX 180 would help much.

My "quick fix" is going to be to upgrade my dual CPU board to a pair of P200s. I've love to have dual PII 300's, but am not willing to spend the money until the price comes down.
