>> Reagan did NOT end the Cold War..

You and I are never going to resolve this one. But any fair analysis of the events would conclude that Reagan, more than any other person or thing, ended the Cold War. And that it wouldn't have happened without his leadership.

It sounds a little off topic, but there is a great book worth reading, "Ronald Reagan and His Quest to Abolish Nuclear Weapons" which is really relevant because it is an honest look at the entire period in detail. It is fascinating just how intense his focus was. Dating back to well before his presidency.

The key moment is when he realized that engaging them in a weapons race would essentially break them. This is what ended the Cold War. Gorby recognized he could not begin to compete with the United States and could not "win" in any weapons buildup. This didn't just happen. It was planned and executed with perfection right down to SDI which was a critical aspect.

This is a book that is really worth reading even though you may not be a Reagan fan. Really well researched and you come out of it understanding how Reagan did, in fact, end the Cold War.
