Dear Ike,

Have been lurking but not posting for a while on this thread.

Upon reading your cheerleading remark for the New Year, I couldn't, I mean, really couldn't resist this urge to post.

At the beginning of August, if you can remember how ASND was being hyped on this thread, I recommended this thread to my friend. Unfortunately, he bought the hype and more unfortunately, he bought ASND at $53. By the way, he borrowed money from credit card to do that. He believed ASND would soar to $80 as so recommended. And for the rest of the story, everybody knows what happened thereafter. I feel I am guilty for recommending this thread to him. I feel so ashamed.

Your implosive outburst at the beach and Kevin is still vivid and fresh on my mind and I don't think a person can change his spot that quickly from being so egoistic to that serene overnight. Henry David Thoreau wrote two essays, "Why I went to woods" and "Why I left the woods". I sure know why I left this thread a while ago, and for that matter, why so did others like Don, Lisa, and many good others.

I don't want to jinx this thread for the New Year, but I do feel it is right to say things as they unfold. As a year end note, I do think I should be very careful about who and what to listen to.

Wish everybody a happy New Year and a prosperous 1998!!!

Re: I hope 98 will bring new challenges alongwith some well deserved booty
from beaten down stocks like TXN and INTC, lets watchfully tread the first quarter
and try to look beyond April 98 in the interim opportunities will be immense.

Agreed Intc should come back strong towards the latter part of the year. Also, Ascend is getting so cheap that if the meet or exceed earning this quarter and restore confidence they could see some nice upswing, ditto FORE. I also think SGI is getting sooo cheap that it might be worth a gamble, but I'd like to see a new CEO first or a turn around. Didn't do badly in 97 dispite a few loserd (Ascend comes to mind) I had some good winners like Citrix and Cisco. I feel very blessed.

Lets hope the whole thread does well in 98.

regards,

Ray
