Many years ago, I had been working day and night on a design for about 3 weeks, when the mini-computer I had been using had an irreparable drive crash. I had also been responsible for backups which used magnetic tape reels at that time, but in my zeal to finish the project, I had neglected to take time for backups and the work was lost. My boss was understanding, but I was quite ashamed I had let him down.
