Makes sense. It will be interesting to see how they plan to supply all the electricity to charge all these cars and build out the grid. Musk making big batteries is something I thought about as a startup after I left HP and it is funny the very building they have for HQ is the HP Labs building I often worked at in the foothills. My thought then was to buy electricity off hours when it was cheap then burn it during the day when it is expensive to time shift and lower costs for those of us who work from home. Must be good ideas from the serenity there!

Now they will put solar collectors on as many surfaces facing the sun as possible and use that to charge batteries during the day to then charge the cars at night. I wonder how it will affect the pricing dynamic... we have damns here that make electricity and you have to keep the water flowing so it is possible to have more electricity than needed.... some they use to pump water uphill at night to release during the day. One lake I used to windsurf at below the spillway in the fore-bay actually had "tides" where it was low in the morning then very cold and deeper in the afternoon.
